Gehraiyaan, the new movie produced by Karan Johar that has Deepika Padukone, Ananya Pandey, Siddhant Chaturvedi in the leading cast will premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video on January 25. Directed by Shakun Batra of Kapoor & Sons fame, the movie has been co-produced by Viacom 18 Studios.
Dharma Productions has partnered with Viacom 18 on three other films as well. These include Karan Johar directed Rocky Aur Rani ki Prem Kahani starring Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt; Raj Mehta directed Jug Jugg Jeeyo starring Anil Kapoor, Neetu Singh Kapoor, Varun DHawan and Kiara Advani; and Shashank Khaitan’s Govinda Naam Mera featuring Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar.
Despite theatre owners urging filmmakers to release films for big screens in order to revive the industry, trade analysts and entertainment industry experts say that digital has emerged stronger than ever before during the pandemic and is unlikely to go away any time soon.
The movie is a relationship drama that dives into the depths of complex modern relationships, adulating, letting go and taking control of one’s life path. Shakun Batra while talking about the plot of the movie said, “Gehraiyaan for me is not just a movie. It is a journey into the intricacies of human relationships, how we traverse through the maze of feelings and emotions and how in each step, each decision we affect our lives and the lives of those around us.
