Authorities across India are intensifying their crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi nationals, with recent actions in Delhi and Maharashtra leading to numerous arrests and deportations.
Delhi Crackdown:
- Vasant Kunj Operation: Mohammad Bablu, a Bangladeshi national staying illegally, was apprehended and is being deported with assistance from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
- Broader Action: Delhi Police deported 33 Bangladeshi nationals in recent weeks, including 11 from Mahipalpur. These individuals, aged 21–48, admitted to overstaying after entering on tourist visas.
- Verification Drive: Several other suspects are undergoing document cross-verification in various districts of the capital.
Maharashtra Crackdown:
- Arrests by ATS: The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested 43 Bangladeshi nationals in the past month across Mumbai, Nashik, Nanded, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Nine individuals, including one woman, were detained in the past four days.
- Forged Aadhaar Cards: Many of those arrested had fraudulently obtained Aadhaar cards using forged documents, allowing them to evade detection.
- Charges Filed: Five cases have been registered under the Foreigners Act and other legal provisions.
Background and Context:
The crackdown comes amid heightened security concerns and efforts to regulate illegal immigration. Many of those caught have overstayed tourist visas or entered without valid documentation, raising questions about border control and the misuse of government identification systems. The operations underscore India’s growing vigilance on illegal migration and its associated challenges.
