The crime branch of Delhi Police has busted a gang of human traffickers who were involved in selling newborns. Seven people, including five women, have been arrested and an infant has been rescued.
The crime branch of Delhi Police on Monday busted a gang of human traffickers who were involved in selling newborns across the city and arrested seven people, including five women and two men.
Upon getting a tip regarding the sale of an infant, the team from the crime branch laid a trap and lured the accused by posing as a decoy customer. When the gang members came to hand over the baby to the decoy customers, a team from the Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) crime branch nabbed all the accused and rescued the two and half-year-old baby.
The accused, identified as Bablu Shah (28), Barkha (28), Veena (55), Madhu Sharma (50), Jyoti (32), Pawan (45), and Salma Devi were arrested by the police.
Police said the accused during the interrogation revealed that Jyoti was working with an IVF clinic, where she used to come in contact with couples who could not have babies. Jyoti and her accomplices used to make quick money by selling children to such couples.
The official said that the accused knew a person named Qutbuddin, a resident of Jharkhand, who used to bring newborns from Jharkhand and hand them over to Salmi Devi.
