As India prepares to celebrate its 78th Independence Day with grandeur and patriotic fervor, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory to ensure smooth traffic management and enhanced security, particularly near the Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the national flag.
Traffic Restrictions on Major Roads
In light of the Independence Day celebrations, several key roads in central Delhi will be subject to traffic restrictions from 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Thursday, August 15. These measures are intended to manage the crowd and secure the areas around Red Fort, where the main festivities will take place.
More than 3,000 traffic police personnel will be deployed across the city, especially at major junctions and roads connecting the borders to Red Fort, to regulate the traffic flow and ensure public safety.
Roads to Avoid
Commuters are advised to avoid the following roads if they do not have parking permits for the Independence Day events:
- Netaji Subhash Marg: From Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail
- Lothian Road: From GPO Delhi to Chatta Rail
- S.P. Mukherjee Marg: From H.C. Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar
- Chandni Chowk Road: From Fountain Chowk to Red Fort
- Nishad Raj Marg: From Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg
- Esplanade Road and its link road: To Netaji Subhash Marg
- Ring Road: From Rajghat to ISBT
- Outer Ring Road: From ISBT to IP flyover, i.e., Salimgarh Bypass
