Two youths were arrested for abducting and killing an 18-year-old boy for a ransom of Rs 10 lakh in North Delhi’s Burari. As per the police, both the accused, aged 19, were inspired by the Bollywood film Apaharan.
Police said one of the accused, Gopal, who works as a cleaner at a showroom, was friends with the victim, Rohan. On January 23 evening, Gopal kidnapped Rohan on the pretext of taking him to his birthday party.
Rohan’s father, Manoj, called the police on January 23 to register a missing person’s complaint. According to Manoj, Rohan, 18, left with his friend Gopal for a birthday party and had not returned.
The police checked around 200 CCTVs and the locations of the friends of the missing boy were obtained. The police then rounded up the suspects. Rohan’s friend Gopal was apprehended by the police on the intervening night of January 25 and 26 from Burari. Later, during questioning, he broke down and revealed that he, along with his friends, kidnapped and subsequently killed Rohan.
Gopal named his two other associates. While Sushil, 19, was arrested, the other accused fled the scene.
According to Gopal, they took Rohan to a room and after partying they strangulated him. They decided to dispose off the body later and left the scene. They had planned to make the ransom call the next day.
When Gopal went to work the next day, he saw that Rohan’s family had approached the police, who were now investigating the matter. Gopal and his associates then took the mobile phone of the deceased to UP and kept continuously moving the location of the mobile phone to distract the police.
