The Sudden Closure and Its Impact

FIITJEE, one of India’s most reputed coaching institutes for IIT aspirants, is facing serious legal and financial troubles following its abrupt shutdown of multiple centres across North India. Established in 1992, the institute had built a strong reputation with around 100 study centres nationwide. However, in January 2025, several of its branches in Noida, Ghaziabad, and other cities closed without prior notice, leaving thousands of students stranded ahead of critical exams.

The sudden shutdown led to widespread outrage among students and parents, many of whom had paid large sums in advance for coaching programs. Multiple FIRs have been lodged against FIITJEE founder Dinesh Goyal and other senior officials, leading to an extensive police investigation into alleged financial mismanagement and fraud.

Noida Police Crackdown: Bank Accounts Frozen and Funds Seized

In response to mounting complaints, Noida Police launched a large-scale probe into FIITJEE’s financial operations. Authorities seized Rs 11.11 crore from bank accounts linked to the institute and froze 12 accounts belonging to its founder, Dinesh Goyal. Reports indicate that Goyal had 172 current accounts and 12 savings accounts, now under scrutiny for possible financial irregularities.

Earlier in the month, the police had also frozen over 300 accounts connected to FIITJEE and confiscated Rs 60 lakh in cash. Noida DCP Ram Badan Singh confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with statements recorded from 31 former teachers and over 250 parents. Goyal has been summoned for questioning, as officials continue to track additional bank accounts linked to the case.

Parental Outrage and Legal Complaints

The sudden closure of FIITJEE centres has triggered multiple legal complaints. Parents, who had paid non-refundable fees, have filed FIRs against the coaching institute, demanding justice and refunds.

  • In Noida, an FIR was lodged citing financial fraud and breach of trust.
  • In Ghaziabad, another FIR was registered against senior officials after a centre shut down, affecting around 800 students.
  • In Greater Noida, legal action was taken at the Knowledge Park police station against four individuals associated with FIITJEE.

Students and parents have expressed concerns about the institute’s failure to provide refunds or alternative coaching arrangements, further intensifying public backlash.

FIITJEE’s Defense and Official Response

Amidst mounting allegations, FIITJEE issued an official statement on January 25, claiming that the closures were not an institutional decision but resulted from “mismanagement and desertion” by its Centre Managing Partners (CMPs). The institute blamed competitors for faculty poaching and refuted claims that teachers had resigned due to unpaid salaries.

FIITJEE also alleged that the controversy was part of a “criminal conspiracy by vested interests” aimed at tarnishing its reputation. The coaching giant has stated that its legal team is actively pursuing cases against what it calls “malicious prosecutions.”

Current Challenges and the Road Ahead

Despite its historical success, FIITJEE is now grappling with severe operational and financial difficulties. Reports indicate that financial mismanagement, salary delays, and poor contingency planning contributed to the crisis.

Several centres across Delhi, Noida, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Varanasi, and Bhopal have either shut down or are struggling to operate. FIITJEE maintains that the “force majeure” situation arose due to the sudden departure of Centre Managing Partners, disrupting daily operations.

Future of Students and the Organization

The future of thousands of students preparing for competitive exams remains uncertain. Many parents are seeking legal recourse to recover fees, while students are scrambling to find alternative coaching centres. The institute’s financial instability has raised concerns over whether it can continue to function and regain its credibility.

Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate the allegations, and further legal action may follow. If FIITJEE fails to resolve its financial issues and refund affected parents, the coaching giant risks losing its long-standing reputation and market trust.

As the investigation unfolds, both students and stakeholders await clarity on whether FIITJEE can recover from this crisis or if it marks the downfall of one of India’s most well-known coaching institutes.
