The authority of Taj Mahal has declared no entry fee from February 17th to 19th on the death anniversary of the fifth emperor of the Mughal Empire, Shah Jahan. The monument will be open for all the public and the tourists for three days and will be able to take part in 368th Urs and can enter the basement to see the graves of the Mughal Emperor and his wife Mumtaz.
The fifth emperor of the Mughal Empire, Shah Jahan is the third son of the fourth Mughal Emperor, Jahangir ruled from January 1628 to July 1658. Apart from the Taj Mahal which was built in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, many tombs were also built, during his monarchy. The construction of Taj Mahal started in 1632 AD and completed in 1648 AD. The Emperor died on January 22, at the age of 74 years and laid to rest at the Taj Mahal in Agra. Every year the entries are made free for the public and the tourists for three days on the occasion of his death anniversary. On this day, necessary arrangements are made for the visitors so that they can enjoy the immense beauty of the tomb.
On regular days, the entry fee at the Taj Mahal for Indians and OCI cardholders is Rs.50/-, for citizens of SAARC and BIMSTEK countries is Rs.540/-, and citizens of other countries are Rs.1100/- . Apart from these, the visitors have to pay additional Rs.200 each for visiting the main mausoleum and there is no entry fee for the children who are below the age of 15 irrespective of their nationality.
