General Mukul Narvane has today succeeded General Bipin Rawat as the Army Chief, who resigned from his post after successfully completing his tenure as the Army.
Gen. Naravane will serve in the post till April 2022. The most senior officer, he had taken charge as the Vice Chief on September 1, before which he headed the eastern command of the Indian army.
Gen. Naravane was also a part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka during Operation PAWAN in 1987.
He also commanded a Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Jammu and Kashmir and the infantry brigade on the eastern front.
Gen. Naravane has been decorated with the Param Vishistha Seva Mandal and Ati Vishishta Seva Mandal during his career.
An alumnus of National Defence Academy, Lt. Gen. Naravane was commissioned into the 7th Battalion of Sikh Light Infantry Regiment in June 1980.
