The Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, has announced the hosting of a marathon event for both international and domestic athletes in Srinagar on October 20. This event is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to boost tourism and reshape Kashmir’s image from a conflict zone to a prime tourist destination.
In a press conference held at the Kashmir International Convention Centre, L-G Sinha unveiled the logo and website for the marathon. He emphasized that the marathon is designed to harness and expand the tourism potential of the region.
“This marathon is aimed at multiplying tourism potential in Kashmir,” Sinha stated. He highlighted that the marathon is the fourth tourism-focused mega event organized this year, following a series of successful initiatives aimed at showcasing Kashmir’s attractions and hospitality.
The Kashmir marathon will feature two main events: a 42 km full marathon and a 21 km half marathon. These events are expected to draw significant participation from both international and domestic athletes, further promoting Kashmir as a hub for sports and tourism.
The J&K administration has been actively organizing events to highlight the region’s tourism potential, seeking to change perceptions and attract more visitors. The upcoming marathon is seen as a significant step in this direction, aiming to scale up the booming tourism sector in Kashmir.
