New Delhi: The Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoLE) has achieved a significant milestone with its eShram portal, which has registered over 30 crore unorganised workers in just three years since its launch on August 26, 2021. This rapid adoption underscores the portal’s critical role in supporting unorganised workers across India, reflecting the government’s commitment to social welfare.

Vision for eShram as a “One-Stop-Solution”

The government aims to establish the eShram portal as a “One-Stop-Solution” for the country’s unorganised workers. Announced during the 2024-25 Budget speech, the initiative will integrate the eShram portal with other governmental platforms, enabling unorganised workers to access various social security schemes through a single interface. This integration is expected to increase awareness of the available schemes and ensure that benefits reach every eligible worker.

Integration of Major Welfare Schemes

As part of the eShram-One Stop Solution project, the Ministry of Labour & Employment is working to integrate several key welfare schemes with the eShram portal. These include:

  • Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY)
  • Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY)
  • Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY)
  • Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor’s Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM-SVANidhi)
  • Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA)
  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G)
  • Ration Card Scheme

These integrations aim to provide unorganised workers with easier access to these crucial benefits, ensuring that they are fully supported in various aspects of their lives.

Collaboration with Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH)

Another key focus of the One-Stop-Solution project is the two-way integration between the eShram portal and the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH). This integration will enable users to register on either platform and seamlessly access the services offered by both, further enhancing the support available to unorganised workers.

Expanding Reach to Grassroots Workers

To ensure that all unorganised workers, including those in rural and remote areas, benefit from these initiatives, the Ministry is conducting regular inter-ministerial meetings with various departments. These efforts are aimed at registering all unorganised workers, including ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and those involved in village, Gram Panchayat, and construction projects, including MGNREGA workers.

Ongoing Efforts to Broaden Registration

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has reached out to other ministries, such as the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), and Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), urging them to expedite the registration of unorganised workers under their purview on the eShram portal.

Conclusion

The eShram portal’s success in registering over 30 crore workers highlights the government’s commitment to supporting the unorganised workforce in India. As the portal evolves into a comprehensive, integrated platform, it will play a crucial role in ensuring that the benefits of welfare schemes reach all corners of the country, empowering unorganised workers and enhancing their quality of life.
