Govt Unveils IndiaAI Compute Portal, Offers GPUs at ₹67/Hour

Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced the launch of the IndiaAI Compute Portal, which will provide Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) for ₹67 per hour. Introduced on the first anniversary of the IndiaAI mission, the initiative aims to democratize AI computing, making high-performance resources more accessible to researchers, startups, and enterprises.

 

The portal will offer access to over 18,000 GPUs, cloud storage, and AI services to students, academia, and government departments. By bridging the AI compute gap, this platform is expected to spur innovation across key sectors, including healthcare, education, and governance.

 

In addition to the compute portal, the government has launched AIKosha, a dataset platform designed to enhance AI research in India. AIKosha will provide structured and secure access to high-quality datasets, supporting the development of advanced AI models and applications.

 

High-performance computing has traditionally been costly, restricting access for smaller AI developers. With GPUs now available on an affordable, pay-per-use model, startups and researchers can leverage cutting-edge technology without heavy financial burdens, accelerating AI-driven breakthroughs.

 

Minister Vaishnaw emphasized that this initiative aligns with India’s vision to become a global AI powerhouse. By offering affordable AI infrastructure, the government aims to cultivate a thriving ecosystem where businesses, developers, and academic institutions can collaborate and innovate.

 

The IndiaAI Compute Portal is expected to partner with cloud service providers and tech firms, ensuring scalability and efficiency. Future AI funding programs and skill development initiatives are also on the horizon to further boost India’s AI landscape.

 

As India’s AI industry continues to expand, initiatives like the IndiaAI Compute Portal will play a pivotal role in accelerating AI adoption, positioning the country as a key player in global AI innovation.
