Workers of two Hindu outfits painted over Lord Ganesha’s painting on a toilet wall in Surat, Gujarat and warned authorities against hurting religious sentiments.
indu outfits, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, on Monday, protested against a painting of Lord Ganesha in Gujarat. The painting was made on the wall of a pay-and-use public toilet in Surat’s Kapodra crossing.
The activists of the two organisations painted over the portrait and warned the authorities against hurting religious sentiments. They also raised slogans against the Surat Municipal Corporation as it had commissioned the painting work on the toilet.
The activists warned the authorities against such paintings of deities on public toilets as they hurt religious sentiments.
Kamlesh Kayada, the city general secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, said, “Surat Municipal Corporation should know that making a picture of any deity on this kind of building is tantamount to hurting religious sentiments. They should be careful while assigning contract work.”
The activists painted over the portrait with white paint.
