Lack of medical seats in government colleges and skyrocketing fees at private colleges have left students with no options but to go abroad for studying.
Amid the ongoing evacuation process of Indian students from war-torn Ukraine, the government in India has announced that private colleges will have to provide 50% of their seats at the fees of government colleges.
Affirming the decision, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took to Twitter to state that 50 per cent seats in private medical colleges will be charged at par with government medical colleges that will benefit the ‘poor and middle class’.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said:” A few days back, the government has taken another big decision, which will benefit the poor and middle-class children.”
“We have decided that half the seats in private medical colleges will be charged at par with government medical colleges,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi added.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) also issued an office memorandum a few days ago, mentioning the decision of 50 per cent private college and deemed university seats at the price of medical college seats. Further, the announcement was made that it will be effective by the next academic session.
The guidelines will have to be mandatorily implemented by the fee fixation committee of each state for their respective medical colleges, they added.
