IIT Delhi Student Dies by Suicide While Under Psychiatric Treatment

An IIT student, Kumar Yash, who hailed from Deoghar in Jharkhand, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan in his hostel room. He was a second year M.Sc. student. The incident took place on Tuesday night when his friends and IIT staff entered the room by breaking the window as the door was locked from inside. Kumar Yash was immediately rushed to Safdarjung Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The police received a phone call around 11 pm informing about a suicide by a student in room D57 of Aravali hostel. After reaching the spot, the police found that Yash had committed suicide by hanging himself from the fan using two towels. No suicide note was recovered but according to his medical records, he was under mental treatment and had an appointment with a psychiatrist on October 29.

The police mobile crime team inspected the room to investigate the matter and no suspicious activity was found. Statements of friends have been recorded and further investigation is underway. The family has been informed, and the body has been kept at the mortuary for post-mortem.
