In a historic feat, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has marked a significant leap forward with the successful flight-testing of the Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM). Launched from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Balasore district, off the coast of Odisha, this test signifies a remarkable advancement in India’s missile technology capabilities.

During the meticulously orchestrated test, every subsystem of the ITCM performed flawlessly, surpassing predetermined expectations. Cutting-edge Range Sensors, including Radar and Electro-Optical Tracking System (EOTS), meticulously tracked the missile’s trajectory, ensuring comprehensive monitoring throughout its flight path. Notably, the Indian Air Force’s Su-30-Mk-I aircraft provided aerial surveillance support, highlighting the collaborative nature of the endeavor.

Displaying remarkable precision, the ITCM navigated its intended course with finesse, utilizing advanced way-point navigation techniques and executing low-altitude sea-skimming flight maneuvers with ease. This successful flight test underscored the reliability of the Indigenous Propulsion System (IPS), a testament to the expertise of the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Bengaluru.

Armed with cutting-edge avionics and software, the ITCM promises enhanced performance and reliability. Developed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Bengaluru, in collaboration with various DRDO laboratories and Indian industries, the missile epitomizes indigenous innovation and collaborative excellence.

The flight test witnessed the presence of esteemed senior scientists from DRDO laboratories and representatives from production partners, underscoring the collective effort behind the project’s success.

In recognition of this monumental achievement, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended his heartfelt congratulations to DRDO, emphasizing the strategic significance of indigenous long-range subsonic cruise missile capabilities. Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and DRDO Chairman, lauded the entire team for their unwavering dedication and expertise in realizing this pivotal milestone in Indian defense research and development.
