Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh is on the run after police launched a crackdown against his outfit on Saturday and have arrested over 100 people and as the manhunt to nab the fugitive Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh continued, three senior police officials from Amritsar (rural police) questioned his family members, including his wife Kiran deep Kaur.
Who is Kiran deep Kaur and why is she on Punjab Police Radar?
- A UK-based NRI, 29-year-old Kiran deep Kaur is Amritpal Singh’s wife.
- Kiran Deep’s family roots are said to be in Jalandhar.
- Amritpal Singh married her in February this year, according to media reports.
- Kiran deep and Amritpal’s wedding took place months after he took over as the head of Waris Punjab De, the outfit formed by actor-activist Deep Sidhu.
- After her marriage to Amritpal she moved to Punjab and now resides in Amritpal’s ancestral village, Jallupur Kheda.
- Kirandeep is on Punjab Police radar as her name has allegedly figured in gathering funds from foreign shores for Amritpal Singh’s activities and for his organisation.
- Kirandeep Kaur is being questioned by Punjab Police over foreign funding of Amritpal Singh’s activities. The police officials are, however, tight-lipped about the outcome of the hour-long questioning.
- The Khalistani leader is believed to have received nearly Rs 35 crore from various foreign sources.
- Punjab Police is also scanning the bank accounts of Amritpal, his wife, father and other relatives to trace the funding mechanism, said sources.
- Police investigation has revealed that Amritpal Singh purchased new SUVs for himself and his men by spending the money received from foreign sources.
- Amritpal had also purchased 35 bulletproof jackets besides illegal arms from the money received through foreign Khalistani sympathisers. Security agencies are also trying to establish his alleged links with Pakistan’s spy agency ISI.
- Amritpal Singh has close links with the ISI, official sources told to few media persons. He was asked to bring young Sikhs under his group in order to destabilise the law and order situation in Punjab, sources said.
