Litton Das delivered a remarkable performance in the ongoing second Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi, rescuing Bangladesh from a dire position and turning the match in their favor. The Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter scored a magnificent 138, helping his team recover from a precarious 26/6 to fall just 10 runs short of Pakistan’s first innings total of 274.

Litton’s century marked his fourth in Test cricket and was instrumental in a massive 165-run partnership with Mehidy Hasan for the seventh wicket, stabilizing Bangladesh’s innings after their early collapse. Mehidy contributed 78 runs before being dismissed by Khurram Shahzad. Following Mehidy’s dismissal, Litton continued to build a crucial partnership with Hasan Mahmud, taking Bangladesh to 250. Litton was eventually dismissed on 138, but his effort ensured that Bangladesh remained competitive in the match.

With this innings, Litton Das became only the sixth overseas wicketkeeper to score a Test century in Pakistan, joining an elite group that includes legendary cricketers like Kumar Sangakkara, MS Dhoni, and Romesh Kaluwitharana.

Overseas Wicketkeepers Who Have Scored Test Centuries in Pakistan:

  • Romesh Kaluwitharana (Sri Lanka): 100 in 1999 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore
  • Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka): 230 in 2002 and 104 in 2009, both at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore
  • MS Dhoni (India): 148 in 2006 at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad
  • Ollie Pope (England): 108 in 2022 at Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi
  • Litton Das (Bangladesh): 138 in 2024 at Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi

Litton’s century, along with Hasan Mahmud’s late strikes on the third day, put Bangladesh in the driver’s seat with Pakistan two wickets down and holding only a slender lead of 21 runs. As the match progresses into Day 4 and Day 5, Bangladesh will look to dictate terms, while Pakistan will hope for strong performances from their key players to regain control of the game.
