Under the auspices of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Madhya Pradesh has launched an ambitious tree-planting campaign, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.” Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated the campaign today, aiming to plant five and a half crore trees across the state.
The campaign’s launch coincides with the birth anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. During the inaugural fortnight, the initiative targets planting 20 lakh saplings over 480 hectares in the Bhopal district alone, with 12 lakh saplings scheduled to be planted at various locations today. The Bhopal Municipal Corporation has invited MPs, MLAs, and other public representatives to participate in planting saplings at 300 designated sites.
In Indore, the industrial capital and cleanest city of the country, a significant effort is underway to plant 51 lakh saplings. The campaign, which will run until July 15, is being executed with a sense of urgency across all cities and villages in the state.
It is noteworthy that Madhya Pradesh set a national record in 2017 for planting the maximum number of saplings in a single day, during which over 6 crore saplings were planted within 12 hours under the BJP government.
This new campaign underscores the state’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and reforestation, reflecting a continued dedication to improving green cover and combating climate change.
