Maharashtra MLA Uday Samant on Tuesday stated that he was still with Shiv Sena but decided to join Eknath Shinde as he was fed up with conspiracies against the party.
Two days after he reached Guwahati and joined the rebel camp, Maharashtra MLA Uday Samant on Tuesday said that he was still with Shiv Sena but took the decision to go with Eknath Shinde as he was fed up with the conspiracy to weaken the party, carried out by the allies.
During the Rajya Sabha polls, the party decided to give a ticket to a Shiv sainik by rejecting a ticket to Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, but the allies ensured our candidate’s defeat.
Samant said, “That is why I have taken the decision to go with Eknath Shinde as he thrives on keeping Balasaheb’s Hindutva alive. But I am still with the Shiv Sena and people from the Konkan region and Shiv sainiks should not misunderstand me.”
The Shiv Sena is battling rebellion from a group of its legislators, who have shifted their loyalty to minister Eknath Shinde, plunging Maharashtra’s Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government into a deep crisis. The rebel MLAs, who were first taken to Surat, are now camping in Guwahati.
Meanwhile, in a big relief to the Shinde Sena, the Supreme Court on Monday put an interim stay on disqualification proceedings against 16 out of the 40-odd rebel MLAs till July 11. These 16 MLAs had been served disqualification notices by the Maharashtra Assembly Deputy Speaker for not attending a party meeting convened by Uddhav Thackeray earlier this week.
39 Shiv Sena MLAs and nine other MLAs, including two from Prahar Janshakti Party, have been staying at Guwahati’s posh Hotel Radisson Blu since they landed in the city last Wednesday in a private charter from Surat.
