Maharashtra crisis: We have support of 50 MLAs; they can’t disqualify us, says Eknath Shinde

Maharashtra political crisis: Shiv Sena rebel Eknath Shinde said that the party’s attempt to disqualify 12 MLAs in his camp was illegal as he had the support of 50 MLAs.

Shiv Sena rebel leader Eknath Shinde on Friday asserted that he had the support of more than 50 MLAs amid the worsening political crisis in Maharashtra.

Shinde told India Today, “In a democracy, numbers are important. We have the support of fifty plus [MLAs].”

Out of the current 47 MLAs in the rebel camp, 39 are from the Shiv Sena, with more likely to join the Shinde camp on Friday.

On the other hand, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has the support of only 13-17 MLAs.

Responding to Shiv Sena’s demand for the disqualification of 12 rebel MLAs, Shinde said that they were not scared. “We are not scared of the notice. Even if they send 10 more notices, they are in the minority. So, how can they send notices? They can’t disqualify our MLAs.

Shinde said, “I didn’t say national party. I said one mahashakti. This mahashakti is our Balasaheb Thackeray’s power; Anand Dighe’s power. We were Balasaheb’s Sainiks and shall remain so.

Shinde further said, “It’s a sad experience for me to fight a party like this, but this is what the party workers feel. I have not taken this step for my own or any post. It’s my duty to fight against injustice. This is what Balasaheb taught us.
