Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Malviya shared a message for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee amid Enforcement Directorate raids in West Bengal school teacher recruitment scam.
The BJP leader tweeted a video of former governor of West Bengal, Jagdeep Dhankhar, at an India Today event where he claimed that many chief ministers have spent several years in jail for similar but much smaller recruitment scams.
Amit Malviya wrote, “Former West Bengal Governor, who knows finer details of the SSC Scam, had made an important point at a program recently. He pointed out that many Chief Ministers have spent several years in jail for similar but much smaller recruitment scams. That should worry Mamata Banerjee.”
In the video that the BJP leader shared, Dhankhar can be heard calling the West Bengal teacher’s recruitment scam as “mother of all scams.”
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata is being probed by the ED over irregularities in teachers’ recruitment when he was the education minister. He is currently under the custody of the ED, which is probing the money laundering angle in the scam.
He held three portfolios – Ministry for Industry, Commerce and Enterprise; Ministry for Information Technology and Electronics; Ministry for Parliamentary Affairs – in the Mamata cabinet. All three portfolios are now with the chief minister.
ED carried out a massive search operation last week during which it found Rs 21.90 crore in cash, Rs 56 lakh in foreign currency and gold worth Rs 76 lakh from Partha’s close associate – Arpita Mukherjee’s house. Following the recovery of unaccounted cash, he was taken into custody, and later Arpita too was arrested.
Meanwhile, the ED on Wednesday recovered another Rs 28.90 crore in cash, over 5 kg of gold and several documents from the second apartment of Partha Chatterjee’s aide.
