Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, participated in a massive plantation drive titled “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, alongside Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, state ministers, and senior officers.
Addressing the event, Shri Bhupender Yadav highlighted the Prime Minister’s initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Abhiyan” aimed at environmental protection and urged every citizen to join the campaign. He noted that a nationwide campaign to plant 140 crore trees is currently underway, underscoring the duty to honor Mother Earth and ensure a green planet for future generations.
Shri Yadav praised Madhya Pradesh’s efforts in the tree plantation initiative, commending the residents of Indore for their dedication to making the city green in addition to their efforts to keep it clean. “Indore residents’ campaign to make Indore green along with Clean Indore is commendable,” he said.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, addressing the gathering, emphasized Indore and Ujjain’s historical commitment to environmental conservation. He noted that Indore is the source of the Maa Kshipra River and the origin of seven rivers, giving the city a unique identity both nationally and globally. He expressed confidence that Indore would become the leading green city in addition to being the cleanest city in India.
State Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya announced plans to increase Indore’s green coverage, including planting 51 lakh trees and ensuring their conservation. He highlighted the role of various societies and organizations in the tree-planting and protection efforts.
During the tree plantation program, as part of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav planted a bud tree in memory of his late mother, Smt. Lilabai Shri Poonamchand ji Yadav. Union Minister Shri Bhupender Yadav planted a mango tree in memory of his mother, Mrs. Santara Yadav, and Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya planted a mango tree in memory of his mother, Ayodhya Devi Vijayvargiya.
The event marked a significant step in the ongoing efforts to enhance green cover and promote environmental sustainability across the country.
