The air quality in Mumbai improved on Tuesday with the air quality index (AQI) standing at 58, indicating ‘Satisfactory’ category.
Days after remaining in the ‘poor’ category, the air quality in Mumbai improved on Tuesday as the pollution levels dropped in the city. The city recorded an overall air quality index (AQI) of 58 against 197 on Saturday last week. On Monday, the AQI stood at 97.
However, only Malad in the western suburbs recorded an AQI of 371, becoming the most polluted station in the city.
AQI TO IMPROVE
As per the air pollution experts, the rise in pollution levels last week was due to extreme weather conditions and the dust storm in the north-western region of the country. However, the air quality in the city is expected to improve further from Tuesday.
AQI of Mumbai indicates ‘upper end of satisfactory’ and is likely to be within ‘satisfactory’ or ‘lower end of moderate’ for the next 2 days, according to the System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).
Due to heavy rain in South India and pre-monsoon drizzle in the city, moisture has entered the region, leading to dust settling down.

Pre-monsoon showers on Saturday and Sunday provided a much-needed respite to Mumbaikars from the scorching heat. As per the weather department, the maximum temperature in the city will hover around 35 degrees Celsius in the next 48 hours.
