Amarnath Yatra 2025: Over 2.47 Lakh Pilgrims Visit Holy Shrine; Yatra Suspended Due to Heavy Rains

The Amarnath Yatra 2025 has seen over 2.47 lakh pilgrims visit the Holy Cave Shrine so far, offering prayers at the sacred 3,880-metre-high cave located in the Himalayas. However, the pilgrimage was temporarily suspended on Thursday from both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes due to heavy rainfall and landslide threats.

Yatra Suspended for Safety; To Resume on July 18

Authorities halted movement along both routes after weather advisories predicted further rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir. The decision was taken to ensure the safety of the pilgrims, as the trails have become slippery and vulnerable to landslides.

The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has deployed men and machinery to restore the damaged tracks. Officials expect the yatra to resume from both base camps on July 18, weather permitting.

Official Statement

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, stated:

“Due to continuous rains over the last few days, urgent repair and maintenance work is being undertaken. No upward movement towards the cave shrine will be allowed from the base camps today. However, pilgrims staying at Panjtarni camp are being allowed to return to Baltal under strict safety protocols.”

Tragic Incident: One Woman Dead, Three Injured in Landslide

On Wednesday, a landslide near Railpathri on the Baltal axis claimed the life of a 55-year-old woman pilgrim, Sona Bai from Rajasthan, and injured three others.
The landslide occurred after sudden and intense rainfall triggered the collapse of rocks and mud along the Z-turn on the yatra path.

This incident raised the death toll during the 2025 Yatra to 15.
