Centre Deploys 50,000 Troops, Tech Arsenal for 38-Day Amarnath Yatra

Massive Security Cover for 38-Day Amarnath Yatra: 50,000 Troops, Drones, and Jammers Deployed

The Government of India is undertaking an unprecedented security operation for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to begin on July 3. In light of recent threats and past incidents, including the Pahalgam attack, the Centre is deploying 50,000 CRPF personnel, advanced surveillance drones, signal jammers, sniffer dogs, and bomb disposal squads to secure the 38-day spiritual journey to the sacred Amarnath Cave Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Significance of the Amarnath Yatra

The Amarnath Yatra is one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimages, drawing lakhs of devotees annually. It culminates at the Amarnath Cave Shrine, perched at an altitude of 3,888 meters in the Himalayas. The cave is famed for housing a naturally formed ice Shivling, considered a divine manifestation of Lord Shiva. The yatra is not just a religious journey, but a test of physical endurance and spiritual resolve, typically conducted through two routes — via Pahalgam and Baltal.

Security Overhaul: Layered and Tech-Driven

This year’s security blueprint is the most extensive yet.

·       50,000 CRPF personnel, in coordination with the Jammu & Kashmir Police, will secure the pilgrimage routes, focusing on road clearance, IED detection, and real-time surveillance.

·       Quick Response Teams (QRTs) are being stationed at high-risk zones to respond instantly to emergencies.

·       All approach roads to the national highway will be sealed during yatri movement, minimizing vulnerability.

·       Each convoy will be equipped with satellite phones and signal jammers, neutralizing communication-triggered threats.

·       Drones, sniffer dogs, and bomb squads will monitor and sweep the pilgrimage paths daily.

Yatra Duration Reduced for Efficiency & Safety

In a significant change, the government has reduced the yatra duration from 52 days to 38 days, aiming to streamline operations and concentrate security efforts more effectively. The compressed schedule is expected to ensure better resource management and minimize the window of exposure to potential threats.

Logistics, Registration, and Smooth Conduct

Pilgrims must undergo a mandatory health check and secure registration through authorized channels before undertaking the journey. The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) is managing logistics, including medical camps, resting shelters, water stations, and mobile connectivity along the route.

·       A radio-frequency identification (RFID) system will track pilgrims in real time.

·       Only those registered with valid RFID tags will be allowed to proceed.

·     Helicopter services from Baltal and Pahalgam will also be available for those unable to trek.

A Devotional Journey Under a Watchful Eye

The government’s meticulous planning and heavy security deployment reflect the delicate balance between devotion and vigilance. As thousands prepare to undertake this high-altitude spiritual journey, the measures in place aim to ensure that faith is not disrupted by fear. With robust arrangements and coordinated efforts across agencies, the 2025 Amarnath Yatra is set to be both sacred and secure — allowing devotees to focus on divine connection while the forces keep danger at bay.
