Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik said on Friday that the our Odisha state hasn’t sought any immediate financial assistance in the aftermath of Cyclone Yaas to avoid “burdening” the Centre as India is at the “peak of COVID-19 pandemic”.
“We would like to manage it through our own resources,” he added. He also thanked PM Narendra Modi for visiting Odisha in the aftermath of the cyclonic storm that wreaked havoc in the coastal state. PM Modi today held a review meeting with the Chief Minister of Odisha and other officials of the state administration to assess the impact of the cyclonic storm.
Patnaik took to Twitter to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi ,“Thank you Hon’ble PM @narendramodi ji for visiting #Odisha in the aftermath of #CycloneYaas. Apprised him about the large scale devastation caused by the cyclone and steps taken by the State Govt ahead of the cyclone and the ongoing restoration efforts (sic),” he said in a series of tweets.
However, Patnaik sought assistance for long term measures from the Prime Minister to make Odisha disaster resilient.
“Sought assistance for long term measures to make #disha disaster resilient as we are frequented by such climate hazards every year. Highlighted Odisha’s demand for disaster resilient power infrastructure and resilient coastal protection with storm surge resilient embankments,” he said.
