After a brief respite, Odisha is gearing up to face another bout of sweltering heatwave conditions, as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional center. With temperatures expected to surge by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, the state is preparing for a prolonged period of scorching weather until May 21st.

The IMD’s latest forecast has prompted precautionary measures, with a yellow warning issued for six districts, including Bargarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, and Kandhamal, slated for May 20th. Additionally, 14 districts, such as Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and others, have been put on alert for May 21st.

This resurgence of heatwave conditions isn’t confined to Odisha alone; neighboring states like Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi are also expected to endure scorching temperatures from May 17th to May 21st.

Anticipating the heatwave’s impact, IMD has raised an orange alert for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and South Interior Karnataka. Heavy rainfall is predicted for isolated regions of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka between May 19th and May 21st.

Echoing IMD’s warning, the regional center emphasized Odisha’s imminent heatwave conditions through its social media channels. Temperatures are projected to gradually climb by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next three days, particularly affecting districts like Bolangir, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, and others.

As the temperature soars, the weekly weather forecast for Bhubaneswar and Cuttack indicates an unyielding rise in mercury levels. Bhubaneswar residents can expect minimum temperatures hovering between 26 to 27 degrees Celsius, with maximums ranging from 35 to 39 degrees Celsius. Thunderstorms and cloudy skies are forecasted throughout the week, adding to the discomfort.

Similarly, Cuttack’s forecast mirrors that of Bhubaneswar, with temperatures forecasted to range between 35 to 39 degrees Celsius for maximums and 26 to 27 degrees Celsius for minimums. Thunderstorms and cloudy conditions are anticipated to persist throughout the week, posing challenges for residents.

As Odisha braces for the impending heatwave, authorities urge residents to take necessary precautions to mitigate its effects. Stay hydrated, seek shade, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, as the region navigates through this challenging weather pattern.
