Over 700 Villages Affected by Floods, 11 Die in Rain-Related Incidents

In a devastating turn of events, more than 700 villages in Uttar Pradesh have been severely affected by flooding as rivers continue to overflow due to incessant rainfall. Within a 24-hour period ending Friday evening, 11 people have lost their lives in various rain-related incidents, according to officials from the state’s relief department.

The state recorded an average of 7.5 mm of rainfall during this period. The toll of the rain-related incidents includes six people who drowned, two who were struck by lightning, two who succumbed to snakebites, and one individual who died in a flood-related incident.

The relief department reported that the rising water levels of several rivers have led to the flooding of 732 villages across 17 districts. The urban areas of Shahjahanpur and Bareilly have also experienced significant flooding. In Shahjahanpur district, traffic on the Lucknow-Bareilly highway was severely affected after a large section of the road was inundated. Bareilly district faced similar disruptions.

 

State Relief Commissioner Naveen Kumar stated, “Teams of the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) are coordinating with the local administration to mitigate flood-related issues in the affected areas. We have set up flood relief camps for affected people.”

As rescue and relief efforts continue, authorities remain vigilant, monitoring the situation closely to prevent further loss of life and property.
