New Delhi: As the Paris Olympics 2024 approach, the Indian boxing team, led by world champions Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain, is gearing up to make a mark. With a contingent of 257 members, including 117 athletes and 140 support staff, India is set for a formidable challenge at the Summer Games.

Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain, both reigning world champions in their respective weight categories, will spearhead the six-member Indian boxing squad. Zareen, competing in the 52kg category, is in exceptional form, having lost only two bouts since 2022. Lovlina, who transitioned from the 69kg category (in which she won a bronze at the 2021 Olympics) to the 75kg category, secured a gold medal at the 2023 World Championships, underscoring her dominance.

Amit Panghal, participating in his second Olympics, aims to redeem himself after an early exit in Tokyo. Ranked No.1 in the 52kg category back then, Panghal has since won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and is eager to showcase his talent on the Olympic stage.

Joining Panghal in the men’s category is Nishant Dev, who will compete in the 71kg category. Dev’s impressive performance, including a bronze medal at the 2023 IBA World Boxing Championships, positions him as a strong contender.

Jaismine Lamboria and Preeti Pawar are set to make their Olympic debuts. Lamboria, who will compete in the 57kg category, secured a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Pawar, competing in the 54kg category, clinched a bronze at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
