Parliament Budget Session LIVE: While the Budget Session is not expected to witness significant legislative changes, a noteworthy proposal on the horizon is the potential doubling of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme specifically for women farmers.

The final session of Parliament before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections is set to kick off from Wednesday. President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the session by addressing a joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in the newly constructed Parliament building. The Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, is scheduled to present the interim budget on Thursday (February 1) during this significant budget session. The interim budget typically takes care of the fiscal needs of the intervening period until a government is formed after the Lok Sabha polls. The budget session is likely to conclude on February 9.  Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi emphasised the cooperative environment and stated that the suspension of all 11 Rajya Sabha MPs has been lifted. Meanwhile, the government told floor leaders of various parties that it was ready to discuss every issue in the upcoming Budget session of Parliament.

President Droupadi Murmu emphasised the evolving strengths of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, highlighting their pivotal role in the nation’s progress. She commended the significant achievement in defence production, surpassing the remarkable milestone of Rs 1 lakh crore, signalling a noteworthy stride towards self-reliance in the defence sector. The President also underscored the transformative impact of these initiatives, positioning them as key contributors to India’s economic resilience and self-sufficiency goals.

President Murmu hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for banning the ‘Triple Talaq’. She also went on to laud India’s economic growth and commended the government for uplifting as many as 25 crore people out of poverty. “The achievements that we see today are the extension of the practices of the last 10 years. We heard the slogan of ‘Gareebi Hatao’ since our childhood. Today, for the first time in our lives, we see poverty being alleviated on a large scale,” she added.

President Droupadi Murmu reached Parliament. She was welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
