After a two-day breather, petrol and diesel prices were hiked again for a second time on Friday. In Delhi, petrol and diesel prices were raised by Rs 0.35 per litre to Rs 105.14 per litre and Rs 93.87 per litre respectively.

In Mumbai, while petrol became dearer by Rs 0.34-a-litre to Rs 111.09 for a litre on Thursday, diesel was raised by Rs 0.37 to Rs 101.78. Mumbai is the highest across all the four metro cities in terms of diesel prices.

In Bengaluru, petrol is now sold at Rs 108.80 per litre and diesel at Rs 99.63, while in Hyderabad, a litre of petrol is now costs Rs 109.37 and diesel cost Rs 102.42 for one litre of diesel.

This is the first time ever that both petrol and diesel and prices have gone beyond Rs 100 in many parts of the country. Before oil marketing companies (OMCs) began a series of hikes starting last week owing to increasing global crude oil prices, petrol prices were stagnant since September 5.

Petrol and diesel are priced differently in different states due to Value-Added-Tax (VAT). The daily changes are implemented by state-run OMCs Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) at 6 am every day.
