Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Ladakh on July 26 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, an official announced. Lieutenant Governor Brig (Retd) B D Mishra reviewed the arrangements for the Prime Minister’s visit during a meeting at the Lt Governor’s secretariat.
The grand celebrations marking the ‘Rajat Jyanti’ of India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War will take place in Drass, Kargil district, from July 24 to 26.
Lt Governor Mishra confirmed that Prime Minister Modi will attend the anniversary celebrations at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass on July 26. The meeting covered various logistical aspects, including security and reception at the Drass helipad, arrangements for the Prime Minister’s motorcade, the wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial, interactions with war widows, and preparations for the green room at the helipad.
The Lt Governor discussed these arrangements with Major General Sachin Malik, General Officer Commanding of the 8 Mountain Division. Mishra instructed all officers to complete the necessary arrangements in a timely manner.
Major General Malik outlined the itinerary for Prime Minister Modi’s visit. Modi will land at the Drass Brigade Helipad on the morning of July 26, where he will be received by army officials. After a brief rest in the green room, Modi will proceed to the Kargil War Memorial.
At the memorial, Modi will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony and visit the ‘Shaheed Marg’ (Wall of Fame). He will sign the visitors book and inspect the museum showcasing Kargil War artifacts. The Prime Minister will also receive a briefing on the Kargil War and pose for a group photograph.
Modi will interact with ‘Veer Naris’ (War Widows) and visit the Veer Bhoomi. Additionally, he will virtually inaugurate the ‘Shinku La Tunnel’.
Major General Malik also mentioned that the Special Protection Group (SPG) team will arrive on July 23 to coordinate with the Army, police, and civil administration to ensure the smooth execution of the event.
The 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas serves as a poignant reminder of India’s triumph and the bravery of its soldiers, with Prime Minister Modi’s visit underscoring the nation’s gratitude and respect for their sacrifices.
