attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah Monday said there were seven ‘scams’ of the Delhi government in which investigation was pending and that the probe into the Delhi excise policy case is just the beginning.

Shah was addressing a rally in South Delhi’s Sangam Vihar, his first in the city ahead of the May 25 polls.

Inke bhrashtachar ki suchi bahut badi hai (The list of their corruption is very long). I ask, who did the Rs 2,875 crore liquor scam? Who did the Rs 78,000 crore Jal Board scam? Who did the Rs 5,000 crore classroom construction scam? Who did the Rs 1,000 crore fake medicine scam? Who did the Rs 4,000 crore X-Ray scam? Who did the panic button scam of Rs 2,000 crore? The Rs 1,000 crore scam in buying buses and who made the Rs 125 crore sheesh mahal? Kejriwal ji, abhi toh sirf sharab ghotale ki jaanch hui hai, saat ghotalon ki jaanch baaki hai (only the liquor scam has been investigated yet, investigation in seven scams is pending),” he said.

Referring to the alleged assault of AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal at the CM’s house, Shah asked how the AAP would ensure the safety of women in Delhi.

AAP hit back, calling the BJP the “most corrupt party in Indian history”. “If any leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party were corrupt, they would’ve joined the BJP and come out clean from its washing machine. All investigations, all cases would’ve been dropped as it happened in the case of Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel, Chagan Bhujbal and countless others,” the party said in an official statement.

“Unlike the BJP’s jumlas, Arvind Kejriwal ji has fulfilled all guarantees — whether it is free electricity, water, education, healthcare, pilgrimage for the elderly — and has now guaranteed Rs 1,000 to each woman every month… BJP and Home Minister Amit Shah ji, have always duped the public with false promises such as Rs 15 lakh in the bank account, bullet train…,” it said.

BJP has fielded Ramvir Bidhuri from the seat, replacing two-time MP Ramesh Bidhuri. He will go up against AAP’s Sahi Ram Pahalwan.

Attacking Kejriwal and AAP on the plank of corruption, Shah said the Delhi CM has made several u-turns (changed his stance) on several issues. “Maine rajneeti main Kejriwal ji jaisa U-turn lene vaala aadmi nahi dekha. Vo naukri chhod kar NGO banaye aur shapath le ke kehte the ki rajneeti main nahi aaunga aur party bana li (Never in politics have I seen a man who makes as many U-turns as Kejriwal does. He quit his job and formed an NGO and swore he would not enter politics but made a party)…,” Shah said.

He also targeted the Congress on the issue of national security: “10 saal tak, Sonia-Manmohan ki sarkar thi, aaye din Pakistan se Aaliya, Malia, Jamaliya aate the, bomb dhamake karte the aur bhaag jaate the. Koi kuch nahi karta tha (For 10 years, We had the Sonia-Manmohan government… On a regular basis, Aaliya, Malia, Jamaliya would come from Pakistan, carry out bomb blasts and run away. No one did anything,” he said, adding that after the attack in Uri and Pulwama, the Prime Minister finished terrorism by hitting Pakistan at home through a surgical strike.

Shah, laughing, said that Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, and Kejriwal had more supporters in Pakistan: “Kejriwal aur Rahul baba do log aise hain jinko Bharat main koi samarthan nahi karta, unke samarthak Pakistan main zyada hain (Kejriwal and Rahul baba are two people who no one supports in India; they have more supporters in Pakistan.”

Referring to the Delhi government’s odd-even scheme to fight air pollution to take a dig at Kejriwal, Shah said, “Kejriwal ji believes in odd-even. On odd days, he makes lists of corrupt people and lectures on corruption. On even days, he forms alliances with corrupt people and becomes a part of the India bloc. On odd days, he demands resignations, but on even days, he is sent to jail, but he does not resign.

The Home Minister, meanwhile, promised that by 2026, all unauthorised colonies will be legalised and people would be given ownership rights. Sangam Vihar, where the rally was held, is one of the biggest unauthorised colonies in Delhi.
