Congress leader and elected Member of Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has resigned from his parliamentary seat representing Wayanad in Kerala. The resignation was formally accepted today by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

This strategic move follows an announcement by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who stated that Rahul Gandhi will retain his seat in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, while vacating the Wayanad seat. Addressing reporters in New Delhi, Mr. Kharge emphasized that the decision was made to ensure Rahul Gandhi remains connected to the Rae Bareli constituency, which holds significant familial and political importance.

Mr. Kharge further revealed that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi’s sister, will contest the upcoming elections from the Wayanad constituency. This decision marks a significant shift in the party’s strategy and is aimed at leveraging Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s political influence and popularity in Kerala.

“Rahul Gandhi will keep Rae Bareli’s seat as it is close to the family, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be the candidate from Wayanad,” Mr. Kharge stated. The move is expected to consolidate the party’s position in both constituencies, with Rae Bareli being a traditional stronghold and Wayanad representing a key seat in Kerala.

The Congress party’s leadership expressed confidence that this change would strengthen their electoral prospects and enhance their engagement with the respective constituencies.
