Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is busy electioneering in the Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency, had a lighter moment amid the heated election campaign when a crowd questioned him about this marriage.
When the crowd asked him about his plans to get married, Rahul Gandhi, with a smile replied, “Ab jaldi hi karni padegi (now, I will have to get hitched soon).”
During his campaign speech in Rae Bareli where he is contesting, the Congress leader said unlike Prime Minister Narendra Modi who works in the “interest of Adani and Ambani” his family has always worked for the people of the constituency.
“If they can make 22 billionaires, we can make crores of ‘lakhpatis’. On June 4, a list of all the poor in India will be made, the name of a woman from each family will be selected and Rs 1 lakh will be credited to the bank account of that woman, each year,” the Congress leader said.
Rahul Gandhi was contesting the election from the Rae Bareli seat because his family has a deep connection with the people the constituency.
“…Ours is a 100-year-old relationship with Rae Bareli. A few days ago I told my mother that that I said in a video that I have two mothers – Sonia Gandhi and Indira Gandhi. My mother did not like this, but I explained to her that a mother is the one who shows the path to the child and protects her. Both my mother and Indira Ji did this for me. This is the ‘karma-bhoomi’ of both my mothers. This is the reason I have come to contest from Rae Bareli.”
Considered a Gandhi family bastion, the Rae Bareli seat had been represented by Sonia Gandhi since 2004. The constituency was earlier represented by former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
Gandhi said his grandmother Indira Gandhi, his father Rajiv Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi worked to improve the lives of people in the constituency.
