The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has awarded Digital night Vision Company, SIONYX a 5-year contract to provide field agents with the pocket-sized Aurora PRO. The night vision camera will allow agents to see full-color daylight images in near darkness. The FBI awarded SIONYX a 5-year fixed price Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) for the Aurora PRO Explorer Edition.
Aurora is the company’s commercially available and award-winning night vision camera. This small, lightweight, all-digital camera system can perform in moonless starlight conditions, similar to Gen II tactical night vision analog optics. Aurora is most commonly used by outdoorsmen, law enforcement, search and rescue, executive protection, and mariners worldwide.
According to the final Finance Division, Procurement Section report issued by the Tracking Technologies Unit (TTU), Operational Technology Division (OTD), which is the FBI unit charged with researching the best technology for the use of FBI agents, the SIONYX Aurora PRO Explorer Edition was the only product on the market available that met the FBI’s specific requirements of a “small, relatively covert low light color capable pocket scope.”
It also states, “the brand has shown that it has the unique ability to manufacture a low light pocket scope that has the ability to show colors in near-total darkness. No other pocket scope-sized camera from any other manufacturer has shown the capabilities to perform these functions.”
“The applications for the Aurora PRO are vast for law enforcement agencies,” said Stephen Saylor, CEO of SIONYX. “Allowing officers to move through the dark in confidence, observe from a secure distance, and perform their duty accurately during operations greatly improves safety for both the public and the officer.”
