Union Minister Smriti Irani, while speaking at India Today Conclave 2023, took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. On the mention that she was a “giant-killer” for her 2019 Amethi victory, in which she defeated sitting MP Rahul Gandhi, the Union minister said the Congress leader was “barely a giant”.
Union Minister Smriti Irani on Friday, referring to the 2019 general elections, when she emerged as a giant-killer by defeating Rahul Gandhi in Congress’ stronghold Amethi, said the Congress MP was “barely a giant”.
The Union Minister of Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs said, “Let’s keep the 2014 and 2019 elections aside. Congress should take a hint from the recent poll results in the northeastern states of Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya, where the BJP did fairly well, and smell the political coffee.
Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘democracy under brutal attack’ remark in the UK at a time when India was leading the G-20 summit, Smriti Irani said, “Democracy is not in peril in India, the Congress party is.”
“He (Rahul Gandhi) is the same person, who in Jammu, just a few days ago, said everything is fine in India,” she added.
“His comments did not come due to concern for India, but due to concern about his political legacy,” Smriti Irani said.
Her comment comes a day after BJP leaders, including Union ministers, on Thursday demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi for his remarks in the UK, insisting that he was “not above Parliament”.
She spoke about Hindutva and New India at the India Today Conclave 2023 in New Delhi.
