UP CM Yogi Adityanath, who visited the Braj region on Monday for campaigning ahead of UP Assembly polls, criticised the SP-RLD alliance, saying that the SP has always sympathised with its “itra wale mitra” while the BJP’s sympathy was always with the poor.

With only two days left for the polling of the first phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections to begin, political leaders of all major parties are visiting Agra division to seek votes for their candidates.

On Monday, chief minister Yogi Adityanath visited the Braj region and criticised the Samajwadi Party-Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) alliance, claiming that this coalition does not have any sympathy for the poor.

“They are friends with the perfumers whose money is found lining up the walls of their homes. Compared to them, the double engine government of UP is giving a double dose of ration free to all the poor. While under the previous government, the money was siphoned off to the ‘Itra wale mitra’, now the money reaches the poor without fail. While the SP always sympathised with its ‘Itra wale mitra’, the BJP’s sympathy was always with the poor,” Yogi Adityanath said.

In this context, Mathura MP Hema Malini said that before 2017, anarchy ruled over UP. “The most prominent example of that is the Jawahar Bagh incident where government property was captured by goons,” she said.

While visiting Agra, Yogi Adityanath spotted a group of Muslim women and approached them. He talked to one of the women, who identified herself as Zoya Khan. The chief minister asked the name of her infant son, who she identified as Ijaan. Yogi Adityanath picked up the infant and held him in his arms, laughing with the baby. While handing over the baby to his mother, Yogi Adityanath said, “This baby is the future of the country. Keep him secure, and give him a good education.”

Later talking to India Today, Zoya said that it was a dream come true for her to see a BJP CM taking her son in his arms. This incident has changed the image of Yogi Adityanath and the BJP in the eyes of Muslim women and now they will vote for the BJP en-masse.

However, the SP has called this incident a “sponsored act” of the BJP. SP leader Rizwan Raisuddin told India Today that the BJP is going to be wiped out from UP in this election and such stunts are the BJP’s last-ditch effort to try and gain as many votes as possible.

“However, no BJP candidate will be able to win from Agra. In fact, people all over Agra are now actively protesting against the current BJP MLAs and stopping them from visiting many localities of the city,” Raisuddin said.

RLD spokesman Pawan Aagri said that all 9 seats of Agra district will fall in the SP-RLD combine’s lap as in the past five years, not only has the BJP wiped out the region’s economy, but the people have become fed up with the rampant corruption, crime, and inflation under the BJP’s rule.

“Nobody can change the thousands of deaths that took place due to an oxygen deficit in Agra and the rest of the state and the people will definitely teach the BJP a lesson about that massacre by forming an SP-RLD government in UP on March 10,” Aagri said.
