The Supreme Court fixed August 28 for the demolition of Supertech‘s twin 40-storey towers in its Emerald project in Noida and also relaxed the time frame till September 4 in case of delays arising from technical or weather conditions. The twin towers located in Sector 93A comes following an order of the Supreme Court in which it declared the buildings illegal.

A bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and A S Bopanna granted a “bandwidth” of one week from August 29 to September 4 to the agencies engaged in the demolishing exercise of the twin towers on grounds that there may be some marginal delay in razing the huge buildings due to technical and weather conditions.

The demolition process will begin at 2:30 pm on August 28 by control implosion technique. As per the officials of the demolition firm Edifice Engineering, more than 3,500 kg of explosives will be used to raze the twin towers.

More than 5,000 residents willl vacated the Emerald Court and ATS Village societies and over 2,500 vehicles will be removed from the area next week in order to conduct the demolition process of the Supertech twin towers safely.

As per the evacuation plan, the residents of Emerald Court and ATS Village will have to vacate the premises by 7.30 am on August 28 and can return after 4 pm only with safety clearance from Edifice.

The impact of the demolition of the nearly 100 metre tall twin towers would be maximum on these two societies and their residents, the officials said.

Entry of people, vehicles, and animals will be restricted in the proximity area — known as the exclusion zone — of the twin towers in Sector 93A, the plan says. The Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, which is close to the twin towers, will remain shut for vehicular movement from 2.15 pm to 2.45 pm on August 28, it showed.

The report said that Aster 2, which is just nine metres from the twin towers, was the closest receptor of the vibration. There is also a gas pipeline three-four metres under the ground and 16 metres from the towers. Edifice will lay steel plates of 10-12 mm as a precautionary measure to avoid any impact on the gas pipeline.

Edifice has estimated that explosives between 2,500-4,000kg would be required to bring down the two towers — Apex and Ceyane. It will take just nine seconds to dismantle the two buildings using the controlled implosion technique.

Uktarsh Mehta, partner with Edifice Engineering said, “We have had a series of meetings with the nearby residents and they are satisfied with the safety measures we are taking. We have installed nets, cloth and perimeter curtains to provide three layers of safety from the dust and debris to the nearby buildings. Any debris will be arrested by either of three layers. Any stray debris will be caught by the geotextiles being installed between the buildings.”

He further said that trenches are being dug at the perimeter to prevent any damage to the nearby building through the shockwave of the explosion. Containers are also being placed between the twin towers and the nearby buildings for extra safety.

Environmentalists predicts that, it is going to impact the residences are staying nearby locations and the exact losses , we will come to know once the blast process gets over.
