Swift Justice in Crimes Against Women Will Provide Greater Assurance: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of swift justice in cases involving crimes against women, stating that it would provide greater assurance of safety for women. Addressing the inaugural session of a national conference of the district judiciary in the presence of Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, PM Modi highlighted the need for better coordination within the criminal justice system to ensure prompt justice for victims.

PM Modi remarked that India has several stringent laws to deal with crimes against women, but emphasized that enhancing the efficiency and speed of judicial processes is crucial. He acknowledged the judiciary’s role as a guardian of the Constitution and praised the Supreme Court and judiciary for consistently upholding their responsibilities.

Referring to the imposition of the Emergency as a “dark” period in India’s history, the prime minister commended the judiciary’s role in safeguarding fundamental rights. He also highlighted the judiciary’s efforts in prioritizing national integrity and security in matters of national interest.

PM Modi addressed the urgency of addressing crimes against women against the backdrop of recent incidents, including the alleged rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata and the sexual assault of two kindergarten girls in Thane. He described these atrocities as grave societal concerns and stressed that quicker delivery of justice in such cases would increase the sense of security among women.

In his speech, PM Modi reiterated the need for stringent laws and called for improved coordination within the criminal justice system to ensure that justice is not only served but served swiftly, especially in cases involving crimes against women and children.
