A top ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Ukraine war could last for decades, with long periods of fighting interspersed by truces, Russia’s RIA news agency reported.
It said former President Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Putin’s powerful security council, had spoken during a visit to Vietnam. Medvedev often makes hard-line comments and last month described Ukrainian authorities as an infection. As long as there is such a power in place, there will be, say, three years of truce, two years of conflict, and everything will be repeated,” he continued, reiterating Moscow’s claim that Ukraine is a Nazi state. In January, Medvedev said if Russia were defeated it could trigger a nuclear war.
In the meantime, Russian authorities have confiscated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s $800,000 (over ₹6 crore) apartment in annexed Crimea. “As promised, Russia’s enemies will not profit in Crimea,” Crimean Governor Sergei Aksyonov said in a video. The apartment will be auctioned off, with proceeds going toward Russia’s war in Ukraine, the speaker of Crimea’s parliament said.

Russia has intensified missile and drone attacks on Ukraine this month, mainly attacking logistics and infrastructure facilities before an expected Ukrainian counteroffensive. The Ukrainian air force said it had shot down 10 missiles fired from the Caspian Sea, 23 Iranian-made Shahed drones, and two reconnaissance drones during the overnight attacks. Several drones and several missiles hit targets in the Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, officials said.
There was no immediate word of any deaths.
