BJP’s Historic Win in Delhi

After 27 years, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a resounding comeback in Delhi, securing a decisive victory in the assembly elections. This win marks the end of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) decade-long rule in the national capital. At the forefront of this political shift is Rekha Gupta, who was sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister, making history as the fourth woman to hold this position in the city. With the BJP’s return to power, a new governance model is set to take shape, focusing on reforms, development, and the implementation of long-pending schemes.

Rekha Gupta’s Cabinet: Portfolio Allocation

Shortly after taking office, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the allocation of key portfolios among her Cabinet ministers, setting the stage for governance reforms and policy implementations. Gupta herself will oversee crucial departments such as Finance, Revenue, Women and Child Development, and Administrative Reforms.

Here is the list of ministers and their assigned portfolios:

Rekha Gupta (Chief Minister): Finance, General Administration, Women and Child Development, Revenue, Services, Land and Building, Information and Public Relations, Vigilance, Administrative Reforms, Planning

Parvesh Verma: Public Works Department (PWD), Legislative Affairs, Irrigation and Flood Control, Water, and Gurudwara Elections

Ashish Sood: Home Affairs, Power, Urban Development, Education, Higher Education, Training, and Technical Education

Manjinder Singh Sirsa: Industry, Food and Supplies, Environment

Ravinder Singh: Social Welfare, Welfare for SC & ST, Cooperation, Election

Kapil Mishra: Law and Justice, Labour, Employment, Development, Art, Culture and Language, Tourism

Pankaj Singh: Health, Transport, Information Technology

This strategic allocation of portfolios ensures representation from various communities, with leaders chosen to address key areas such as infrastructure, education, welfare, and law enforcement.

New Government’s Immediate Action Plan

The newly formed Cabinet wasted no time in getting to work. In its first meeting, the government approved the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, a health insurance scheme that had been previously blocked by the AAP government.

Speaking at a press conference, Chief Minister Gupta reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing crucial civic issues. “Today, we have called the PWD and Jal Board officials for a meeting with the Cabinet. We will take over the issue of potholes,” she stated.

Another major decision was the tabling of 14 pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports in the first Delhi Assembly session. These reports highlight significant losses incurred by the previous administration due to alleged corruption in the liquor policy and lavish spending on former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence renovation.

Poll Promises and Future Roadmap

With a strong mandate from the people, the Rekha Gupta-led government is determined to fulfill its electoral promises swiftly. Among the key initiatives:

  • Mahila Samman Yojana: A financial assistance program providing Rs 2,500 to women in Delhi.
  • Ayushman Bharat Yojana: Implementation of the Centre’s flagship health insurance scheme, along with an additional Rs 5 lakh top-up from the Delhi government.
  • Infrastructure Development: Immediate action on pothole-ridden roads, clean water supply, and urban planning improvements.

A New Era for Delhi

With its return to power, the BJP government in Delhi is set on delivering on its promises, ensuring transparency, and focusing on development-centric governance. Rekha Gupta’s leadership, coupled with an experienced ministerial team, will play a pivotal role in transforming Delhi’s administrative landscape. As the government embarks on its new journey, all eyes will be on how effectively it can address the capital’s challenges and fulfill the aspirations of its citizens.
