Uttar Pradesh election: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee will conduct a mega rally in PM Narendra Modi’s constituency, Varanasi, on Thursday.
In what is being touted as a mega opposition show in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Jayant Chaudhary will share the stage with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at a joint rally in Varanasi on Thursday, March 3.
On February 8, Mamata visited Lucknow and addressed a press conference at the Samajwadi Party headquarters where she announced that she will join Akhilesh at a rally in Kashi.
SP’s allies, Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party’s Om Prakash Rajbhar and Apna Dal (K)’s Krishna Patel will also share the dais with Mamta Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav in Kashi. Mamta will reach Varanasi by Wednesday evening.
A total of 54 constituencies, including eight in Kashi, will go to the polls in the last phase on March 7.
Banerjee will address a public meeting in Airhe village. The show will coincide with the sixth phase of polling. Earlier, Banerjee had campaigned for Akhilesh from SP’s Lucknow headquarters by lobbing a football, symbolising ‘Khadeda hobe’, a variation of the Trinamool’s call of ‘Khela hobe’ during the Bengal polls last year.
As per SP sources, a Vijay Rath roadshow is also likely to be conducted on March 3. Mamata is also expected to visit the Kashi Vishwanath Dham and attend the Ganga aarti.
Swami Prasad Maurya may also join the mega show in the BJP stronghold.
