The by-polls in 14 assembly constituencies across Kerala, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh were recently rescheduled from November 13 to November 20, in consideration of upcoming festivities. The Election Commission revised the date based on requests from national and state political parties such as the Congress, BJP, BSP, and RLD, to encourage a better voter turnout. Results for these by-polls will be announced on November 23, aligned with the declaration of assembly election results for Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
State-Wise Details:
- Uttar Pradesh
- Voting for nine assembly seats has been rescheduled to November 20. Eight of these seats became vacant after their representatives moved to the Lok Sabha, while Sisamau became vacant after Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki was disqualified following a criminal conviction.
- The Milkipur seat in Ayodhya remains pending due to an ongoing court case.
- Punjab
- The four seats—Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, and Barnala—will now have voting on November 20. AAP has shown confidence in securing Dera Baba Nanak, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann supporting candidate Gurdeep Singh Randhawa against Congress’ Jatinder Kaur and BJP’s Ravikaran Singh Kahlon. The seat opened after Congress MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa’s election to the Lok Sabha.
- Kerala
- The Chelakkara assembly seat will also go to vote on November 20.
The revised voting schedule aims to ensure higher participation across all three states, supporting a smooth democratic process.
