The Biden Administration is keen on further strengthening its “critical and critically important” partnership with India, with a focus on fostering a more prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific region, the White House has stated. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized the significance of the US-India relationship during her daily press briefing on Monday.
Responding to questions about President Joe Biden’s priorities for the remaining six months of his administration, Jean-Pierre underscored the importance of the US-India partnership. “We look forward to continuing to expand our critical and critically important partnership and how it’s going to benefit the American people,” she remarked.
Jean-Pierre highlighted that President Biden views the US relationship with India as one of the most consequential in the world, noting that the two nations work closely on vital priorities, particularly through the Quad and the US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology.
Earlier in the day, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, India’s Ambassador-designate to the US, arrived in Washington, D.C. Kwatra, who has extensive experience in US-India relations, is expected to present his credentials to President Biden soon. His arrival comes at a critical juncture, with the US engaged in two international conflicts and amidst a presidential election campaign.
The coming months are expected to see several high-level diplomatic engagements between India and the US, including visits by cabinet-level officials from both nations. This follows the recent upswing in US-India relations, marked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Washington in June of last year and President Biden’s participation in the G20 summit in India last September.
