Ahead of the state polls next year, PM Narendra Modi was in Gorakhpur on Tuesday during which he inaugurated the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and other development projects.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath, who was also present during the occasion with him later took to Twitter to say the state was “celebrating”.

While delivering his speech, PM Modi took an apparent jibe at the Samajwadi Party and said, “The ‘red caps’ want to form the government to show leniency towards terrorists, to bring them out of jails. So always remember that the ‘red caps’ are red alert for UP.”

He added, “Today the entire UP knows that the ‘red caps’ cared about ‘red beacons’ alone. They want nothing to do with your pain and issues. The ‘red caps’ want power – for scams and for filling their coffers.”

Speaking further, PM Modi said, “Everybody knows the importance of the Gorakhpur fertiliser plant for farmers and employment here. But previous governments showed no interest in starting it. Everyone knew that AIIMS Gorakhpur had a long pending demand but the governments before 2017 made excuses in allotting land for it.”

PM Modi said India’s money will be invested in India while speaking at a programme in Gorakhpur. He added, “When there is a double engine government, then work takes place at double speed. When work is done with honest intentions, then even calamities can’t become obstacles.”

The PM also said that more fertiliser plants will be opened in Gorakhpur. “We have introduced the PM Urja Ganga project to power these fertiliser plants,” PM Modi added.

With the state election taking place early next year, Purvanchal or eastern UP is a crucial region for the BJP. Gorakhpur is the most prominent cities of eastern UP while also being the homestead of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath
