Assembly Election LIVE Updates: Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will on Friday release the party’s youth manifesto for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election. Meanwhile, the Shiromani Akali Dal is keen to field Bikram Singh Majithia from Amritsar against Navjot Singh Sidhu. The BJP is also likely to field former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh against Sidhu. The elections in five states — Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Goa will take place in seven phases between February 10 and March 7.

The Samajwadi Party on Friday announced tickets for five candidates in Bijnor.Ram Avtar Saini, who is considered close to Swami Prasad Maurya, has been made a candidate from Nurpur, while current MLA Naeem ul Hasan has been made the candidate from Dhampur.

Senior leader from Dhampur and former minister Moolchand Chauhan has not been given a ticket from anywhere this time. However, his close aide Kapil Gujjar has been given ticket from Badhapur seat.

Sitting MLA from Nagina assembly seat Manoj Paras has been given ticket again from the seat. Similarly, Haji Taslim, the sitting MLA from Najibabad assembly, has been made the SP candidate.
