Congress leader Digvijaya Singh confirmed on Thursday that Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi has received an invitation to the Ayodhya Ram Mandir consecration ceremony and expressed her ‘very positive’ stance on the matter. Singh mentioned that she is considering attending the event personally or sending a delegation from the party.

Scheduled for January 22 next year, the inauguration ceremony of the Ram Mandir prompted Singh to emphasize Sonia Gandhi’s favorable disposition towards the invite. He stated, “What objection can be there? Sonia Gandhi is very positive on this matter. Either she will go or a delegation from the party will go.”

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury have also received invitations for the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22. Sources said the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust sent the invitations to them.

‘They will not invite me’

Responding to inquiries about his own invitation to the grand opening, Singh remarked, “They (BJP) will not invite me because they are not inviting true devotees. Whether it be Murli Manohar Joshi, Lal Krishna Advani, or Digvijay Singh, they will not be given the invitation.”

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust extended invitations to Sonia Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge earlier in the week for the consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the ceremony, which includes the installation of the idol of Ram Lalla at the grand temple on January 22.
