Dr Kafeel Khan, a paediatrician formerly with Gorakhpur’s BRD medical college, has been declared as the Samajwadi Party candidate for the upcoming UP MLC elections from Devariya-Kushinagar seat.

Samajwadi Party has decided to field Dr Kafeel Khan as its candidate for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections. Kafeel Khan is likely to be fielded from the Devariya-Kushinagar seat won by SP’s Ramavadh Yadav in 2016.

Polling for 36 seats of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council will be held in 35 local bodies on April 9, followed by the counting of votes on April 12.

Kafeel Khan, who made headlines after the 2017 BRD Hospital tragedy, met SP chief Akhilesh Yadav at the party office in Lucknow on Tuesday. He also presented Yadav with a copy of his book – The Gorakhpur Hospital Tragedy.

Uttar Pradesh government had, in November of last year, terminated the services of Dr Kafeel Khan, a paediatrician at Gorakhpur’s Baba Raghav Das (BRD) medical college.
