Virat Kohli-led India thrashed Pakistan by 89 runs (target revised according to DLS method) in Manchester to make it 7-0 against arch-rivals in the ODI World Cup.

Rohit Sharma scored a magnificent 140 to guide a clinical India to a comprehensive 89-run win over Pakistan in a group game in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at Old Trafford in Manchester on June 16, 2019.

The Manchester clash will always be remembered as a lopsided match where a dominant Indian team dismantled a poor Pakistani side in a high-octane game of cricket in front of a packed house at Old Trafford. With this win, India maintained their unbeaten streak (7-0) over Pakistan in the 50-over World Cup: 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2011, 2015, and 2019. The rain-disturbed encounter at a packed Old Trafford had ended in a routine win for India.

India posted 336/5 at the end of 50 overs, thanks to Rohit Sharma’s second century in World Cup 2019 and Virat Kohli’s well-placed 77. Rohit got solid support from his fellow opening partner KL Rahul, who made a steady 57 off 78. Chasing a competitive target, Pakistan were off to a poor start as Vijay Shankar scalped Imam-ul-Haq with a leg-before. They were cruising at 117/1 after 21 overs before double strikes from Yadav and Hardik Pandya reduced them to 129/5.

Meanwhile, a lengthy rain interruption at the end of the 35th over shaved 10 overs off the chase. After play resumed, the match was shortened to 40 overs and the target got adjusted to 302 on a Duckworth-Lewis basis. Pakistan needed 136 from 30 balls, with four wickets in hand and the team fell short by 89 runs. While Rohit was the protagonist with the bat, Kuldeep Yadav was the hero with the ball. The Virat Kohli-led side had progressed to the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup where they suffered defeat against New Zealand.

Brief Scores: India 336/5 in 50 overs (Rohit Sharma 140, Virat Kohli 77; Mohammad Amir 3-47) beat Pakistan 212/6 in 40 overs (Fakhar Zaman 62, Babar Azam 48; Kuldeep Yadav 2-32, Vijay Shankar 2-22) by 89 runs (DLS
